Science on Screen℠

Unexpected pairings of feature film or documentary with renowned experts from the world of scientific and medical research.

One of our most popular programs, Science on Screen creatively pairs screenings of classic, cult, and documentary films with lively introductions by notable figures from the world of science, technology, and medicine.  Each film is used as a jumping off point for the speaker to reveal current scientific research or technological advances, providing the perfect combination of entertainment and enlightenment -  even for the most science-phobic culture vulture!

National Initiative and Grants

In 2011, the Coolidge Corner Theatre Foundation received a $150,000 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to expand Science on Screen℠ to independent cinemas nationwide. Over the past four years, the two organizations have awarded a total of 71 grants to 38 independent theaters for use in creating and presenting their Science on Screen programming.

We are pleased to announce that, next year, we will be awarding a minimum of 20 grants to non-profit cinemas to create or sustain Science on Screen programs. For more information on this initiative, including grant application guidelines and a list of grant recipients, please click here.
